The Late Sushma Swaraj Award, named after the renowned Indian politician who served as an MP, MLA, and Union minister, is presented to women who have established their identity in any field and worked towards a social cause. The Bhartiya Janta Party- Mahila Morcha organized an award ceremony on 15 March 2023 in Nagpur, where intellectual women like lawyers, doctors, engineers, and teachers were honored. 

Dr. Varada Gokhale, Medical Director of Madhav Netralaya Eye Institute and Research Centre was one of the recipients of this prestigious award, which was presented to her by the State President of Mahila Morcha BJP, Chita Wagh, for her remarkable work in the medical field.

Dr. Varada has worked in well-known institutes like Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai, and LV Prasad Eye Institute, Vizag, and currently serves as the Medical Director of Madhav Netralaya Eye Institute and Research Centre, Nagpur. This non-profit organization provides excellent eye care at an affordable cost to society. Dr. Varada specializes in pediatric ophthalmology and works tirelessly to prevent blindness in children. She has successfully operated on many young children with congenital cataracts and helped them see the world with better vision.
