RETINOPATHY OF PREMATURITY (ROP) FREE TREATMENT INITIATIVE

ABOUT THE INITIATIVE
Madhav Netralaya Eye Institute and Research Centre is committed to preventing childhood blindness and ensuring early detection and treatment of eye diseases in newborns. As part of this commitment, we have launched a special initiative to provide free Investigations, Consultations, and Surgeries for newborns up to 3 months of age diagnosed with Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP).

WHAT IS RETINOPATHY OF PREMATURITY (ROP)?

ROP is a potentially blinding eye disorder that primarily affects premature infants born before 34 weeks of gestation or with a birth weight of less than 2,000 grams. This condition occurs due to the abnormal development of blood vessels in the retina, which can lead to vision impairment or blindness if left untreated.

SCOPE OF THE INITIATIVE

Under this initiative, Madhav Netralaya offers:

  • Free Screening & Investigations: Early detection through state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment.
  • Free Consultation: Expert ophthalmologists specializing in paediatric retina care.
  • Free Surgical Treatment: Advanced laser and surgical interventions for infants who require urgent medical care.

WHO CAN BENEFIT?

This initiative is available to newborns up to 3 months of age who are at risk of ROP, including:

  • Premature babies (born before 34 weeks)
  • Low birth weight infants (less than 2,000 grams)
  • Babies requiring NICU care with oxygen therapy

WHY EARLY SCREENING IS IMPORTANT?

Timely screening and treatment of ROP can prevent irreversible blindness. Our team ensures that every at-risk newborn receives proper evaluation and, if needed, the most advanced treatment options at no cost.
